Welcome to ADL Editorial.
I am a qualified freelance copy-editor and proofreader with more than thirteen years’ experience. After living in London for more than forty years and balancing freelance editorial work with other employment, I moved to the south of Italy in 2017 and became a full-time copy-editor and proofreader. It’s definitely warmer out here, and with eight cats (six Italian, two British) and five dogs (all Italian!) there’s no rest for the wicked…
I trained with The Publishing Training Centre (PTC) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), and I work with publishers, literary consultancies and self-publishing authors.
I have copy-edited or proofread the following genres:
- Children’s Fiction
- Crime & Mystery
- Historical Fiction
- Literary Fiction
- Science Fiction
- Translated Fiction
- Young Adult, Fantasy
- Academic (social and public policy; criminology; science; technology and society; social work; human geography; politics and international relations; political science; community development; urban geography; urban and regional policy; social geography; sustainable development; childhood and youth studies; sociology of childhood and youth; education and social justice; ageing and gerontology; environmental policy; social research methods)
- Food & Drink
- General Interest
- Health & Well-being
- Investigative Journalism
- Memoir & Biography
- Mind, Body & Spirit
I edit on screen using Track Changes in Word or annotations on PDF, and I also work on hard copy using the British Standards Institution symbols (BS 5261C:2005).
I am a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and follow their Code of Practice.
My interest in language stems from my Italian background and I studied French and German to degree level, spending a year in Germany as an English Language Assistant. I have also taught English as a Foreign Language to both young and adult students.
